Hello to all the people of 'HI FI, today I want to tell you about the history of this great pair of speakers / monitors DIY. Because you have a pair of beautiful and exuberant midwoofer Ciara, signed CM 161, and a pair of horn tweeter HT 95 signed Monacor PA, I asked myself, why not build a pair of speakers to satisfy my thirst of decibels that would otherwise I could not hear with a simple pair of conventional speakers?. Having said that I started work, and parameters in hand I started with my trusty PC to simulate what would have jumped out of this pair of mid-woofer, and I can not really surprised to realize that while I had a good efficiency estimated at around 95 db watt meter, from another I could not enjoy a very extensive range low, and this unfortunately is the price to pay for speakers like (light moving mass and high power factor for this size), on the other hand, my aim was to achieve excellent overall performance, but the project was not to distort, nor force them beyond the limits of the components used. Well, without these details I will now describe the work done by me, that ad was not easy, from loading to be used for mid-woofer, in fact I had two choices, the first was the classic air suspension (sealed box), the second bass reflex!. The first allows a good but not excellent response at the lowest frequencies of the audio spectrum, the latter confirmed that the mid-woofer is not born to go down in frequency, but allow a good dynamic whole, allowing the phenomenon of ragging break-up of cone pressure levels a little higher, all resulted in a load of about 14 liters tuned to 85 Hertz on the walls insulated with mineral wool to reduce spurious frequencies at medium and high frequencies, and this says a lot about of these speakers (we'll talk about later). Once drafted the speakers, it shall make the holes and insert the woofer and tweeter At this point I begin to detect the frequency responses of the various components, starting from the mid-woofer, and as if by magic, I confirm, as found from the curves provided by the home that the "wooferotto" has some piccaccio around 5 kilohertz (perhaps because born to car use, then be installed into the door and then not aligned relative to the listener), and in fact that off-axis peak is always decreasing. The tweeter, however, despite being a component of a trumpet, part rocket (with a bump just from 5 kilohertz) and then linearized to its limits, which are around 20 kilohertz. Without gutting mistakes, nevertheless bore you with formula or treaties of electro, I just tell you that: 1) the filter for the mid-woofer is a lowpass second order Butterworth-type at 5 kHz, with compensation cell, 2) the filter for the tweeter is a second order Highpass Bessel type (q = 0.5), 6 kHz. The choice of a lower Q for the high pass for the tweeter is easy to say, the latter being very energetic on the portion of frequencies next intersection, I meant that those frequencies were attenuated by 6 dB at the crossover (and not like the traditional 3 dB Butterworth), so that everything would have given an overall frequency response free of holes and / or spikes, as was actually observed in the final measures, the latter was also attenuated by 3 db ulteriormene through resistance, because it was found be much more efficient than the mid-woofer. The cabinet is made of particle board by 2 cm, finished first with two coats of sealer, stucco body repair shop for any imperfections, and after several passes of sandpaper, paint a black brush, then sprinkle with automotive-type damping (it is not a scandal, all speakers are so PRO-finished), all obviously scratch-proof. I would come to an end, but it would be futile to finish the speech without a few words about these speakers!. Well, in fact each one of us could do what he wants, even put them on the Christmas tree! Jokes aside, they were born on a basis of high efficiency, meeting the parameters of two mid-woofer and two tweeters which have characteristics PRO, and high efficiency and good power, but the speakers on the streets are still low range speakers, what does it mean? nothing, not aliens, but must be used as it should be, in most cases you can simply connect them to your HI FI altrenativa your speakers if you have dry, or use it a little more challenging such as studio monitors, and here the discussion begins to weave, because even if they have good efficiency, and we invite you to fiddle with the volume, the phenomena of break-up of the cone are still there if eccedeste with the volume, this is not a defect, you can easily read up!. I end by giving you the tips for using these speakers: 1) use quiet, you can use them as-is without exceeding the volume, or at least mitigate some of the bass with the tone control if you want to throttle the volume , 2) use PRO, combine it with a subwoofer stereo or two mono, filter through about 80 Herz and see some beautiful, believe me in this configuration can really give the best, the sound pressures reaching really high, but not low price compared to some pre-packaged systems kiloeruo! Good listening to everyone.
